RATING: 4.75 MAX & DAVID STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

It was a desperate plan. But Mary Grace Winters knew the only way to save herself and her child from her abusive cop husband was to stage their own death. Now all that remains of their former life is at the bottom of a lake. Armed with a new identity in a new town, she and her son have found refuge hundreds of miles away. As Caroline Stewart, she has almost forgotten the nightmare she left behind nine years ago. She is even taking a chance on love with Max Hunter, a man with wounds of his own. But her past is about to collide with the present when her husband uncovers her trail and threatens her hard-won peace. Step by step, he's closing in on her—and everything and everyone she loves.

BOOK REVIEW:

This was my first Karen Rose book, and it won’t be my last. I was pleasantly surprised by the detail of the plot.

Max and Caroline come from very different backgrounds. Caroline aka Mary Grace had been in a very abusive marriage and she finally took matters into her own hands and bravo to her.

Unfortunately for Caroline, her abusive husband is a very smart detective who will stop at nothing to get the information he requires. The man is all kinds of crazy. He gets a lead into the disappearance of his wife and their seven-year-old son and the crazy sonofabitch is on the hunt.

There are two car chases (I shall call them) going on: Winters hunting down his wife and son and Special Agent Steven Thatcher is on the trail of Detective Rob Winters.

I really liked the effort Karen put into weaving all the action that was happening at once. The plot keeps the pages turning.

I will say Max, the professor’s character, kinda annoyed me sometimes with the way he was written. He’s kinda self-centered and then he’s not and then he is. Rinse and repeat. It is insta-love and I can handle those, but I wasn’t totally feeling the guy.

Tom, Caroline’s son I really liked. He was written very well. A lot of emotion is dredged up.

Dana is an amazing woman. Bravo!

David! OMG! Max’s brother is amazing. He kinda stole the limelight from Max as far as I am concerned right up until nearly the last page.

David, rocks!

Steven, rocks!

The next book in the series is about Steven Thatcher and I already have it on my shelf to read from library.

Only thing I can pick about Steven is, in this book he was ‘the man’ on a mission and then Karen wrote him making a very unprofessional move. I do understand it was supposed to be because of the situation, but… damn! I could have done without that happening because I think it didn’t need to happen.

I do recommend for all the dark suspense romance readers. A lot of tough topics are hit up and in detail.

Anywho… big thumbs up to Karen and the first installment in the Chicago series.

RATING: 4.5 KYRIAN STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

The Dark-Hunters are ancient warriors who have sworn to protect mankind and the fate of the world is in their hands. . .

He is solitude. He is darkness. He is the ruler of the night. Yet Kyrian of Thrace has just woken up handcuffed to his worst nightmare: An accountant. Worse, she's being hunted by one of the most lethal vampires out there. And if Amanda Devereaux goes down, then he does too. But it's not just their lives that are hanging in the balance. Kyrian and Amanda are all that stands between humanity and oblivion. Let's hope they win.

BOOK REVIEW:

I’m a little behind on this series by like another 27 books, plus all the novellas hidden inside Dark Bites and in Other Worlds. I have to get my Dark Hunter Universe map out to guide me to keep me on track. And also I have to pull out my Chronicles of Nick paperbacks and sort out where I read them among all this.

Speaking of Nick, I do like the kid. He has wit and a great personality, plus he doesn’t give a shit about rollerblading around Kyrian’s massive home.

“You’re the only man I know who can have sex with a woman who looks that good and be in this bad a mood ten minutes later. Damn, didn’t you know sex is supposed to make you feel better?”

Kyrian rolled his eyes at his impudent Spire. Rules and regulations had never applied to Nick Gautier.

“I need you to take Amanda shopping for clothes. The Daimons burned her house down and she has nothing except the clothes on her back.”

Nick arched a brow. “From what I saw, she had no clothes whatsoever on her back. Her front neither.”

Kyrian narrowed his eyes on his Squire.

“Don’t have a hissy fit.” Nick held his hands up in mock surrender. “I know she’s yours and I would never encroach, but man, I’m not blind, either.”

“One day, Gator bait…”

“Yeah, right. That threat might actually carry weight if I didn’t know how much you live to order me around. You’d go insane if you couldn’t page me at all hours of the night.”

I have heard so much gushing over Acheron aka Ash (seems Kyrian gets away with calling him Ash) and Styxx that I rather enjoyed every time Acheron popped up in this book. I immediately felt he overshadowed Kyrian, but I stayed #teamkyrian for this book—although Acheron is rather yummy.

He was lying on his back with his legs dangling way over the arm of the sofa and his hands behind his head as he watched her from the darkness.

Shirtless and barefoot, he wore a pair of tight leather pants. He had long, dark green hair and a stylized small birdlike tattoo on his left shoulder, the tail of which curled down and around is biceps. His skin was the same golden tone as Kyrian’s and it set off to perfection the small gold necklace he wore around his neck.

“And you are?” she asked.

“Acheron Parthenopaeus,” he said in that steady, deep voice. “Pleased to meet you.” His words were devoid of any warmth or emotion.

Okay, this was no Yoda. Well, except they both had green heads.

Giddy up!

Anywho… back to the main characters of this book: Kyrian and Amanda, who are a great couple of characters to get to know. I really enjoyed the small scenes we got of Kyrian, being his dark-hunter self with the back flips and fighting. Before that, he seemed just a sexy guy and I needed the action rather than the sexy times to shine through. It took a while for the story to show me what a two thousand year old dark-hunter was capable of. Visually I enjoyed seeing that in my head as I read.

I really liked Julian and Grace popping up in this book and the little bits of Talon and his motorbike. Rawrrr.

Patting the white and black dog, Amanda looked up to see the man who had arrived on the motorcycle. He was every bit as handsome as Hunter, yet there was something ethereal about him. Mystical.

His blond hair was cut short except for two long braids that fell from his left temple down to the middle of his chest. He wore a zipped-up black motorcycle jacket that had red and gold Celtic scrollwork painted all over it and a thick torc around his neck.

A great second installment. I was told to read Fantasy Lover first and I use that as my # 1 in the series, although technically Night Pleasures appears to be, so that became my second in the series.

Eh.

I’ve got the next two on my shelves in paperback so I’ll get onto Talon’s story next in Night Embrace, but I feel I need to crack out a few of the novellas first, which appear in Dark Bites. I’ve ordered it from my local library.

I'm in for the long line of books and am eager to get to Acheron's story. It is a whopping thick book.

Until the next installment...

BOOK REVIEW: LIVING DEAD IN DALLAS by CHARLAINE HARRIS - SOOKIE STACKHOUSE # 2 - GOLLANCZ - PARANORMAL ROMANCE

tháng 2 22, 2018     4 STARS, Book Reviews 2018, Charlaine Harris, Gollancz, Library Loan, Living Dead In Dallas, Paranormal Romance, Sookie Stackhouse Series     No comments

By: Charlaine Harris
Published By: Gollancz
Released: Available Now
Details: Omnibus paperback from library, 722 Pages
Living Dead In Dallas is 217 pages of this omnibus.

RATING: 4 STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

Cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse is having a streak of bad luck. First her co-worker is killed, and no one seems to care. Then she comes face to-face with a beastly creature that gives her a painful and poisonous lashing. Enter the vampires, who graciously suck the poison from her veins (like they didn't enjoy it).

The point is: they saved her life. So when one of the bloodsuckers asks for a favor, she obliges - and soon Sookie's in Dallas, using her telepathic skills to search for a missing vampire. She's supposed to interview certain humans involved, but she makes one condition: the vampires must promise to behave and let the humans go unharmed. But that's easier said than done, and all it takes is one delicious blonde and one small mistake for things to turn deadly....

BOOK REVIEW:

I’m going to start by saying I decided to watch 3 episodes of Trueblood after I had finished the second book. I think I so far prefer watching the show.

This was a good read, but I am so not connecting with Bill and Sookie in the paperback, thus far, but now I have seen 3 episodes on TV, I feel they express more emotion as actors playing their characters.

I am trying with Bill, but I find him dull in the book. It was great being introduced to Stan and some of the other vampires and there was a great story attached to that.

I think about halfway through this book I started to get into the swing, no pun intended (refer below paragraph) with Sookie and her detective type mission.

I still enjoyed this instalment, but I wouldn’t rave about it. *hides under pillow*

I felt a little awkies with the orgy scene. Not because it was an orgy scene. Pffft! I devour erotic books, but because the characters felt awkward in the scene. Eric in pink lycra…hmmm…I shall say no more. Maybe I need to look at the year this book was written and the clothing styles of the era. I get it was supposed to be funny? But this is Eric!!!

I sometimes feel (and this is me and my personal expectations), that parts need to be fleshed out more in this book between Bill and Sookie. I felt that a bit with book 1, too. I know there is a massive fan base for this series, but I personally would like some more emotion with Bill on paper and I feel he’s not your typical ‘dream’ vampire book boyfriend—yet.

The sexual content seems to overshadow where more fleshing out could be inserted. I want to believe in these two and I feel like I am floating rather than getting depth.

I’ve got the omnibus from my local library because I can’t find books 2 and 3 in my library but they seem to have book 1 and 4 onwards.

Go figure.

I have purchased paperbacks for 4 onwards to keep me happy for a while from my local newsagent, but they didn't have 1-3.

This omnibus is really an uncomfortable weight to read snuggled in bed. It’s like a big, heavy brick. I think it would be the heaviest book I have ever held as a fictional novel, and I have to grip it hard it’s that heavy.

Note to publishers: Don’t release such a whopping heavy paperback. Reading is for snuggling in bed, or snuggling somewhere. Not getting knocked in the face with the book or struggling to hold the thing up. It’s really a lay-on-your-tummy read or sit at a table.

I am very intrigued to know more about this series, so I will heft this whopping book back up ( it will be left side heavy this time) and crack on with Club Dead.

BOOK REVIEW: CONSPIRACY IN DEATH by J.D. ROBB - IN DEATH # 8 - CONTEMPORARY CRIME - PIATKUS

tháng 2 19, 2018     6 STARS, Book Reviews 2018, Conspiracy In Death, Contemporary Crime, In Death Series, J.D. Robb, Library Loan, Piatkus     No comments

By: J.D. Robb

Details: Paperback from library, 459 Pages

RATING: 5 6 ROARKE & PLOT STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

In the late 21st century, on the streets of New York City, a street sleeper is found murdered, his diseased heart removed with surgical precision. His death would typically drop to the bottom of a list of senseless and inexplicable killings, but Lieutenant Dallas, who "would stand for the dead and the living," is not about to let that happen.

When her research uncovers similar crimes in several cities that were dropped under mysterious circumstances, Dallas knows she's facing a killer cruel enough to prey on the weakest in society and powerful enough to conspire an extensive coverup.

To complicate matters further, Dallas faces an equally troubling threat to her career when she's linked to the death of a fellow cop. Now she must fight to restore her good name as well as track down the killer.

BOOK REVIEW:

6 STARS!!! And I don't often hand those out.

This was my FAVE book thus far in the series. I do love them all, but this one was that little bit more.

Organ harvesting is not a fun topic, but this was the path Eve was on with her faithful sidekick, Peabody, as they worked the case of the displaced (homeless) people on the streets who are killed for their not so healthy organs.

I can’t express how much I love Roarke, he really is one hell-of-a-guy and I keep getting Christian Grey in my head whenever I imagine him, but with long black hair. Dude is drool worthy and always comes through for Eve, even when she doesn’t want him on the case.

They made an interesting picture: Roarke, sexy and elegant in suave black tie; Eve, long and lanky in her copper column; and Mavis, in a silver dress that looked wet to the touch and faded into transparency a wink below her crotch, while a temporary tattoo of a grinning lizard slithered up her right thigh.

I really enjoyed the injection of the ‘troublemaker’ in this instalment, just to add a little more to Eve’s plate. She was a doozey of a character.

Watching Summerset and Eve have a moment where they are both at odds with their normal behavior with each other was a little emotional. See, Summerset isn’t heartless towards Eve, he just likes to play it that way. I think by now he knows she's not a money hungry woman looking for an easy ride in life.

Watching Roarke handle Eve when she needs him most, cements in my mind farther how suited these two are for each other.

Yup! There was a lot of depth to this instalment and the case to solve came with a more complicated plot, and that I really enjoyed.

J.D. Robb aka Nora Roberts really has a smashing hit on her hands with this über long series. I’m in for the long haul. I’m beginning to lag a little with enthusiasm for Stephanie Plum series (I’m at Explosive Eighteen #18), because nothing really changes. The In Death series really brings it all. I know they are chalk and cheese as far as seriousness, but it would be nice for a little depth with Steph and the gang.

I highly recommend In Death series, it is clever (even though sometimes the cases to solve are a little too easy), sexy, the characters are mature and can be funny and serious. Roarke is really exceptional, I think.

I have read Loyalty In Death, finished it this morning and this one is still my fave.

Time to reserve a couple more from the library. This is a series I will definitely invest in paperbacks for my personal shelves.

RATING: 4.5 FUN STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

Claire is a twenty-something, single mom that grudgingly helps her best friend sell sex toys while she attempts to make enough money to start her own business to give her foul-mouthed, but extremely loveable (when he's asleep) toddler a better life.

When Carter, the one-night-stand from her past that changed her life forever, shows up in her hometown bar without any recollection of her besides her unique chocolate scent, Claire will make it a point that he remembers her this time.

With Carter's undisguised shock at suddenly finding out he has a four-year-old son and Claire's panic that her stretch marks and slim to none bedroom experience will send the man of her dreams heading for the hills, the pair will do whatever they can to get their happily ever after.

Warning: contains explicit sex, profanity and enough sarcasm to choke a horse.

BOOK REVIEW:

I picked up this paperback from an OP shop while I was tagging along for one of mini me’s OP shop adventures. I just hung around the books and picked up a couple good finds. I do remember starting the ebook a gazillion years ago (2012) as I had on my Kindle, but for some reason I never finished it. Certainly not because I wasn’t enjoying it, but being a blogger, maybe a publishers’ book for review was more important at the time.

This is a fun read, made even more quirky by absolutely no page numbers printed on any of the pages, which I gotta tell you was kinda weird and also messed with my theory of reading X amount of pages a night, or simply noting what page number I was up to. I hope to miss that experience ever again with a paperback.

It was really quite odd.

So many reviews and ratings have already been put down for this book. It is a definite poolside read.

Gavin, the four-year-old wonder child is a hoot, even though I shouldn’t condone what comes out of his mouth, but he’s not my kid, so I laugh and can walk away.

He really is a big part of the humor in this book.

The sub characters are all fun and bring their own kind of silly.

Now, Jenny, I found we have something in common (heads-up: Jenny is the character who gets her words mixed up and it can be quite funny), you think a median strip is a medium strip and so have I, my whole entire life—nearly. Who knew it was a median strip? Ya learn something new every day.

What I found very amusing is I don’t know anybody else over where I live that has watched Beavis and Butt-head and when the line: I am the great Cornholio. I am the great Cornholio. I need TP for my bunghole popped up, I had a big giggle. I was waiting for the line : Caaaandy. I need caaaandy. (Beavis and Butt-head humor)

My boys used to walk around with their hoodies up over their heads reciting these lines. Come to think of it, so did my husband.

If you are looking for a quick, fun read, this is the book for you. Nothing is taken seriously and the sex scenes are kinda hot, too.

All in all, this is the type of book that sells well, because we all like a fun read.

BOOK REVIEW: BECOMING A VINCENT by C.M. OWENS - THE WILD ONES # 1 - CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE

tháng 2 02, 2018     5 STARS, Becoming A Vincent, Book Reviews 2018, C.M. Owens, Contemporary Romance, Humorous, The Wild Ones Series     No comments

Details: Kindle purchase, 220 Pages

RATING: 5 OF THE FUNNIEST STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

When you live in a place where “turbo speed” internet is a slight step above dial-up, men carry on nine-year beard-growing challenges out of stubborn pride, and your brothers do things like nail all your panties to the outside of your cabin just for funsies, you tend to be a little crazy. You can call it a "locational" hazard, if you will.

That’s Tomahawk for you.

We rank people based on just how crazy they are. And the four craziest families in town are called the Wild Ones.
I’m on the bottom tier of those, so technically I’m not as crazy as the other Wild Ones. In fact, if it wasn’t for my brothers and their endless antics, I wouldn’t be considered a Wild One at all. Ahem. Sure. We’ll go with that.

Anyway, I have a best friend who endures it all with me. Benson Nolans is my one, constant favorite person.
Without him, I’d probably go really crazy, and not the fun kind. It’d be ridiculous, after three years of a flawless friendship, to mess that all up by falling for him.

I mean, even if we did get a little too close one night, it’d be reckless endangerment. Even if we did suddenly feel the chemistry that’s always been there and stop toeing the line, it’d be a foolish risk to take.

It’d be stupid to start hoping a really fun, but completely irrational, night with zero inhibitions might accidentally happen.
Really stupid…

Right?

*NO cliffhanger
*Stand-alone book
*Sexual Content
*Adult language
*Completely, 100% crazy

BOOK REVIEW:

I discovered I had quite a few C.M. Owens’ books on my Kindle after stumbling across Four Psychos under her pen name, Kristy Cunning.

November 2017 I had purchased both Becoming A Vincent and Going Wild and had forgotten I had purchased them—as ya do. I’m not even ashamed to mention my Kindle account has like 4000-5000 books on it.😝

(Just throw the kindle in the coffin with a solar panel above ground when I cark it).

Anywho, this book is THE funniest book I have read in a long time. It does take a lot for me to laugh these days and this book had me snorting and giggling.

Hale and Killian, the brothers are the craziest and funniest guys.

I am so in lurrrve with Benson Nolans.

#teambenson

#rawrrr

C.M. Owens has found a new reader fan in me. I have already started book 2, Going Wild.

I am not even gonna tell you any more than that, because this is such a fun, uber sexy read with great sub characters. It’s a whole brand of crazy, but it is sure to make you smile.

P.S. At the moment it is only $1.00US

I'm not so different from most people.
Like everyone else, I have life goals.

Goal #1: Become a real girl instead of this invisible ghost thing I currently am.

Goal #2: Convince the four men I've been haunting for the past five years to pick me to be their new toy after goal one is complete.

Goal #3: Figure out who/what I am and why I can't remember anything past the five years I've been haunting this quad.

Goal #4: Eat popcorn.

See? Perfectly normal. Sort of.
Gotta start small, after all.
It's not like anyone else is perfect either.

**Dark humor galore

BOOK REVIEW:

I saw this book by chance on Amazon when I was zipping about a couple days ago and noted it was only a buck and even though I didn’t like the cover design, I popped over to Goodreads and saw everybody praising the book.

Good enough for me.

The cover gives the impression of a dark read, but in fact it isn't. You will find yourself snorting with laughter. Or was that just me doing the snorting?

This is why giving authors’ reviews, becomes very important.

I loved how original this book felt, even though sometimes I could feel a little Hunger Games sliding in with the gauntlet/trials.

Keyla is a character who is naïve for reasons she can’t help. She gives good banter and she reminded me of Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie, when she would think a new outfit and change her clothes as though in the blink of an eye. She is a fun character who makes the best of what she is… which is???

The four lads held my attention quite nicely, playing the reverse harem role well.

Sexual tension…Check!

Gorgeous… Check!

Banter… Check!

Cocky... Check!

I can’t reveal anymore than I have, because this is a story better left to unfold.

There are four books in total that will be published in the series. Book two is released titled : Three Trials. And the cover is really cool.

Kristy aka C.M Owens has used a great deal of creativity in bringing something a little fresh and a lot sexy to the stage.

Well done!

Give this one a read, I'm sure you will be very entertained even if it isn't your usual genre you read in. I will read anything as I love finding 'gems' to read.
