Details: Paperback from OP Shop find, 308 Pages

RATING: 4 SHENANIGAN STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

Personal vendettas, hidden treasure, and a monkey named Carl will send bounty hunter Stephanie Plum on her most explosive adventure yet.

The Crime: Armed robbery to the tune of nine million dollars

Dom Rizzi robbed a bank, stashed the money, and did the time. His family couldn't be more proud. He always was the smart one.

The Cousin: Joe Morelli

Joe Morelli, Dom Rizzi, and Dom's sister, Loretta, are cousins. Morelli is a cop, Rizzi robs banks, and Loretta is a single mother waiting tables at the firehouse. The all-American family.

The Complications: Murder, kidnapping, destruction of personal property, and acid reflux

Less than a week after Dom's release from prison, Joe Morelli has shadowy figures breaking into his house and dying in his basement. He's getting threatening messages, Loretta is kidnapped, and Dom is missing.

The Catastrophe: Moonman

Morelli hires Walter "Mooner" Dunphy, stoner and "inventor" turned crime fighter, to protect his house. Morelli can't afford a lot on a cop's salary, and Mooner will work for potatoes.

The Cupcake: Stephanie Plum

Stephanie and Morelli have a long-standing relationship that involves sex, affection, and driving each other nuts. She's a bond enforcement agent with more luck than talent, and she's involved in this bank-robbery-gone-bad disaster from day one.

The Crisis: A favor for Ranger

Security expert Carlos Manoso, street name Ranger, has a job for Stephanie that will involve night work. Morelli has his own ideas regarding Stephanie's evening activities.

The Conclusion: Only the fearless should read Fourteen.

Thrills, chills, and incontinence may result.

BOOK REVIEW:
I’m gonna be up front and say this was probably the least favorite in the series for me, but I had a couple of laugh-out-loud moments, mainly to do with sub characters.

I enjoyed Fearless Fourteen enough to keep reading, but it was a bit stagnant all round with the Steph Plum formula.

Lula has always been my go to gal for the funniest sidekick, but this time round she plain annoyed me with her wedding plans for her completely made up wedding to Tank. I kinda got irritated; more than found it funny. There was a lot of eye rolling from me every time the topic came up.

Now the real funny came in the form of Mooner, Gary and Zook. Well, mainly Mooner and Gary—homegrown security. Bahahaha.

Mooner was already at the open living-room window when we walked into the room. He was holding a two-foot section of white PVC pipe that had a smaller pipe glued toward the base.

“Lieutenant Zook,” he said into a two-way attached to his shirt. “Are you in position?”

“Yessir, Captain,” Zook answered from the kitchen.

“Munitions Expert Gary, are you ready?”

“Yessir,” Gary said.

Gary was in the dining room, halfway between Mooner and Zook. He was wearing a utility belt that carried a can of hairspray, and a grill lighter. And he was holding a basket of potatoes. Tucked into the potato basket was a large bag of M&Ms and a large order of fast-food fries still in the cardboard container.

“It’s in case we need a shotgun.”

“Makes sense,”Lula said. And she turned and looked at me and made the crazy signal with her finger going around alongside her head.

Zook’s voice whispered over the two-way. “I got a bandit at two o’clock. I need a partial baked.”

Gary ran into the kitchen and handed Zook a potato. Zook dropped it into the PVC pipe and rammed it down. Gary sprayed hairspray into the pipe and jumped back. Zook pointed the spud gun out the door and phoonf!

Steph is still… well… Steph.

I shoved Morelli’s gun into the waistband of my jeans at the small of my back, and I stood beside Mooner and looked out the window. The gun was cold and hard and uncomfortable. I popped the snap on my jeans, but it didn’t help a lot. I removed the gun and shoved it under a couch cushion for safekeeping. It was a semi-automatic Glock, and I didn’t actually know how to use it, anyway.

This installment started off as an FTA, but somewhere along the way, Steph became more than a bounty hunter, making it her mission to solve police business.

There was a lot of OTT, more than usual with a monkey and panty eating Bob, Tank fainting and Brenda who was kind of a PITA of a side story.

Safe to say, least fave installment, but I didn’t give up… because I am addicted—regardless.

Ranger was sadly not his usual sexy self. #teamranger

Joe and Steph act more like a twenty year married couple when he isn’t wanting in her panties. Eh, these things happen. We did get more Joe airtime this installment.

Oh and Steph’s car didn’t blow up. Never thought I would miss her car blowing up.

Go figure.

14 books in and there isn't any growth in characters, they are all just the same. In 14 books I doubt anybody has aged. I mean how old are they after this many books? Going on story it is probably only six months down the track.

I'm curious.

Anyhoo, I'll be back. I can't seem to stay away.

I've still got two more OP shop finds with #15 and #16, so I shall power along.

#teamranger

BOOK REVIEW - SLADE by VICTORIA ASHLEY - WALK OF SHAME # 1 - CONTEMPORARY EROTICA

tháng 7 18, 2017     3.75 STARS, Book Reviews 2017, Erotic Contemporary Romance, Slade, Victoria Ashley, Walk Of Shame     No comments

By: Victoria Ashley
Published By: Victoria Ashley
Released: Available Now
Details: Kindle, 176 Pages

RATING: 3.75 SLADE STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

My name is Slade Merrick and I’m a fucking sex addict .

I’ve been told it’s a problem. But I see it as a passion; something that I’m good at. And who the fuck stops something that they’re good at?

They want me to seek help; get my cock in check. Don't judge my lifestyle. You’re no better than me. Just admit it, you like to fuck too. Sex is what I do best; my own personal high, so I embrace it instead of being ashamed.

When I'm not fucking, I'm slinging drinks at Walk Of Shame or stripping my way into your bed; another thing I'm good at. Every woman’s darkest fantasy brought to life.

So, am I stopping? Fuck no. Sex is beautiful, raw and erotic and I get off knowing I can have it with anyone I want . . . with the exception of her.

Aspen.

She walks into the club swaying those hips, instantly drawing my cock to attention. She’s pure perfection. That is, until she opens that mouth, drawing me in and for the first time in forever I want something more than sex. I want her and she hates it.

Things get dirty. Dirty is what I like; it’s how I live. But . . . she’s playing a game she can never win.

BOOK REVIEW:

The covers for this series are really eye catching and they caught me, so I had to read. I’ve got the box set, but also along the way I had #oneclicked Slade and Hemy, individually. Simply took me too long to crack them open.

Now, I know this first installment went off like a firecracker with ten thousand plus ratings on Goodreads—alone—but…

I’m gonna rate according to my level of rating for beautiful, cocky, Slade’s book.

I am giving 3.75 stars for depth of story and a few other reasons.

I would give 4.5 stars for the DIRTY! Giddy up!

As an overall this story is short, which is perfectly fine, I totally dig reading shorter books, probably more than bricks, but there isn’t a lot for me to hold onto in depth of characters etc in this installment.

If you want a dirty good time, with pretty good writing, (I didn’t let the dirty distract me from the actual writing) then Slade is your man.

I do love Aspen’s name, such a great name.

This is more a wham-bam read for me, but I did enjoy it. No matter what I think, it certainly has made a tidy profit.

Eve Dallas
Image inspiration pinched off another review
Thought they had it pretty spot on.

BOOK REVIEW:

I’m trying not to worry already an In Death series formula is becoming quite evident, each book I crack open. Janet Evanovich has got that covered with Stephanie Plum.

46th book releasing in 2017, I could skip to book 45 and see how that formula is going, but where would the fun in that be?

Like Stephanie Plum series, I am addicted, regardless of the formula.

Steph P series has Ranger reeling me back in each time and Eve Dallas has Roarke.

Giddy up!

The baddie of the story is pretty evident early on into Immortal In Death, but that is okay. I was hovering on two theories from the get go, but felt theory one was a little too directed by the author. That is when I know to look the other way.

What I like is Nora aka J.D gives us a platter of sub characters to choose from who could be the bad guy.

Bravo!

Pet hate is an author writing in this genre who gives us only one possibility because they are too busy pushing on the reader the one they want us to assume is the killer. Ya gotta be cleverer than that and give the reader a ride. J.D. did serve up a nice platter of suspects.

Possible Spoiler Alert:

Throw your hand over the screen and block out the paragraph below. Don’t peek! You can peek if you already read book 3.

I kinda feel bad with who we discover is the baddie because there was so much potential there for a Joe/Steph/Ranger thing.

I did like the title had  ‘Immortal’ in it and how it is brought into this mystery.

Oh... Roarke, you are so yummy. The more I read in this series, the more I see why Eve attracts you like a bee to honey, when you could have any woman.

The sub characters really do steal the show sometimes when Eve is getting rather clinical in her investigations.

Leonardo is a wonderful addition who is a great quirky character.

‘Leonardo, he’s this massive, and oddly attractive… I don’t know. Event. Heavy on the Native American blood, at a guess. He has the bone structure and coloring of an NA, biceps like astro torpedoes, and a voice that has a hint of magnolia.

(Say what? Magnolia? *scratches head*)

If only Pandora hadn’t been killed off, what a PITA addition she would have been to the series, but entertaining.

“You two-timing, back-stabbing, mother-fucking son of a bitch.” She made her leap, rather like a gorgeous mortar locked on target, and with a speed and grace brought on by pure fear.

Mavis and Leonardo are gonna make a wonderful story addition because they are such colorful characters.

Peabody! I just love her name, it is kinda manly, but who cares. I look forward to more of Eve and Peabody teaming up.

We learn things in this installment. Lots of things.

We get more of Eve and her past. Summerset learns things giving him a whole new perspective on Eve. It’s these parts of a long standing series that help me to stay on track and keep coming back for more, because although they are possibly part of the recipe (release an emotional tit-bit each book), they don’t read like the recipe.

Another addictive installment. I’m ready for Rapture In Death.

BOOK REVIEW - GLORY IN DEATH by J.D. ROBB - IN DEATH # 2 - CRIME ROMANCE - PIATKUS

tháng 7 15, 2017     5 STARS, Book Reviews 2017, Crime Romance, Glory In Death, In Death Series, J.D. Robb, Library Loan, Piatkus, Suspense     No comments

By: J.D. Robb
Published By: Piatkus
Released: Available Now
Details: Paperback from library, 390 Pages

RATING: 5 INTELLIGENT STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

It is 2058, New York City. In a world where technology can reveal the darkest of secrets, there's only one place to hide a crime of passion-in the heart.

Even in the mid-twenty-first century, during a time when genetic testing usually weeds out any violent hereditary traits before they can take over, murder still happens. The first victim is found lying on a sidewalk in the rain. The second is murdered in her own apartment building. Police Lieutenant Eve Dallas has no problem finding connections between the two crimes. Both victims were beautiful and highly successful women. Their glamorous lives and loves were the talk of the city. And their intimate relations with men of great power and wealth provide Eve with a long list of suspects -- including her own lover, Roarke.

BOOK REVIEW:

Book two is done and dusted, and just quietly, so is book three.

Mystery, murder and suspense and a nice helping of Roarke and his Eve—is what keeps me coming back for more.

I do dare a reader to not fall head-over-heels for a man like Roarke.

What is very brilliant about his character, as I am discovering is: he knows Eve better than she knows herself at times, he’s lived on the tough side, he’s intelligent, he’s street-smart, he has high-tech shit to help Eve with her investigations, he has a grumpy butler, he’s generous with his emotions and he’s a very patient man.

Diamond necklace, anyone?

Eve Dallas is always on a case, but she finds time for the billionaire who weaves his way into her investigations, either as a suspect or having contacts.

Prominent women are being murdered. Eve is on the case and with Feeney occasionally along for the ride.

The villain had me flip flopping as to who it was. I thought I had the bad guy and then I was off the trail, but then on it again, but then off it again. I do like a book in this genre that makes the reader work hard theorizing.

Well, I like to theorize.

We get more of other sub characters. Summerset is always a joy to read. Who needs a mother in law when they can have Summerset giving them the stink eye? The man does not like Eve…but keep reading the series, they learn more about each other.

Mavis, Eve’s BF, the nightclub singer, shows up more and she’s really growing on me. Eve needs somebody like Mavis in her life, even if she is kinda the total opposite of her. In Eve’s case—can only be a good thing. Eve can be a little too serious sometimes.

Peabody makes her entrance.

Another really good book in the In Death series. Only 42 more to go, because #46 isn’t released yet, and I’m about to start # 4.

Addicted. Much.

BOOK REVIEW - LEAN MEAN THIRTEEN by JANET EVANOVICH - STEPHANIE PLUM # 13 - HEADLINE - CONTEMPORARY CRIME

RATING: 5 #teamranger STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

New secrets, old flames, and hidden agendas are about to send bounty hunter Stephanie Plum on her most outrageous adventure yet!

MISTAKE #1

Dickie Orr. Stephanie was married to him for about fifteen minutes before she caught him cheating on her with her arch-nemesis Joyce Barnhardt. Another fifteen minutes after that Stephanie filed for divorce, hoping to never see either one of them again.

MISTAKE #2

Doing favors for super bounty hunter Carlos Manoso (a.k.a. Ranger). Ranger needs her to meet with Dickie and find out if he's doing something shady. Turns out, he is. Turns out, he's also back to doing Joyce Barnhardt. And it turns out Ranger's favors always come with a price...

MISTAKE #3

Going completely nutso while doing the favor for Ranger, and trying to apply bodily injury to Dickie in front of the entire office. Now Dickie has disappeared and Stephanie is the natural suspect in his disappearance. Is Dickie dead? Can he be found? And can Stephanie Plum stay one step ahead in this new, dangerous game? Joe Morelli, the hottest cop in Trenton, NJ is also keeping Stephanie on her toes-and he may know more than he's saying about many things in Stephanie's life. It's a cat-and-mouse game for Stephanie Plum, where the ultimate prize might be her life.

With Janet Evanovich's flair for hilarious situations, breathtaking action, and unforgettable characters, LEAN MEAN THIRTEEN shows why no one can beat Evanovich for blockbuster entertainment.

BOOK REVIEW:

My addiction to this series stays strong.

My addiction to #teamranger is as strong as The Force.

Everything is the normal recipe: different day, different villain/s, different outfits, shit happens to Steph’s car and there isn’t much movement between the Joe/Steph/Ranger thing.

Fifteen minutes later, I looked in my rearview mirror and saw Ranger pull in behind me. He got out of his car and into mine. Ranger didn’t smile a lot, but clearly he was amused.

“I don’t know how you did it,” Ranger said. “In a matter of days, you’ve managed to turn a perfectly good piece-of-shit car into something so fucked up it’s a work of art.”

And Ranger gets dressed in black. He was going for the corporate look.

Ranger ended his call and joined me at the table. He was in corporate attire. Black dress slacks, black shirt, black-on-black striped tie, black gun and holster. He draped a black cashmere sports coat on an empty dining-room chair, then poured a coffee while standing, and sat across from me.

(I bet the coffee was black too)

What I find as my observation now on this trio, is they should just  have a threesome and get it over and done with, and all will be right in my world. Well… my Stephanie Plum world.

Not sure what Ranger and Joe would think about that, I’m sure Steph would probably be up for it…I mean who wouldn’t?

#teamrangerladyboner
It is becoming an odd sort of working relationship that Ranger and Joe have, where Steph is concerned. I can almost see it as a throw-your-keys-in-the-middle-and-make-sure-you-bring-her-home-safe, kinda deal.

Whatever it is—I think I got a good 13 more books of it.

I think this one got five stars instead of four-and-a-half because of the squirrel and beaver bombs.

Oh…yeah!

Shenanigans abound.

RATING: 4.25 MAC STARS!

Blurb: Goodreads

Then she’s knocked off her bike on the way to her housekeeping job at McCarthy’s Resort Hotel by Gansett’s “favorite son,” Mac McCarthy. He’s back in town to help his father with preparations to sell the family resort and has no intention of staying long. He soon realizes his plans for a hit-and-run visit to the island are in serious jeopardy, and he just may be “maid” for love.

BOOK REVIEW:

The Gansett Island series first came to my attention last year when a review for the Men Of Ocean Beach series – Joy Is Found, by Emma James stated:

This type of storyline with all the different characters interacting through each book reminds me of Anne Mercier's Rockstar series and Marie Force's Gansett Island and Green Mountain series', which isn't a bad thing because those series are up there in my all time faves.

(excerpt from review of Joy Is Found , Men Of Ocean Beach # 3 by Dawn - Goodreads)

Needless to say I had to find the first book in Gansett Island and read it. Men Of Ocean Beach series is one of my fave. *wink*

Checking my Kindle I realized I had purchased this book in 2012, so away I went.

***FREEBIE ALERT***

Note: Currently FREEEEEEEEEEE here : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YKZIGI/ref=series_rw_dp_sw

Maid for Love has over 2200 ratings on Amazon.

This was a sweet read with some heat in the romance to keep the readers warm. I am really looking forward to reading more in this series.

I could visually see Gansett Island as I was reading and I liked it a whole lot. I also liked the bunch of hunks who work there or are part of the McCarthy family.

This was a great pool side read where nothing is too deep, but the hunky lads will keep you coming back for more.

Huzzah!!

Named by the social worker who rescued her as a child, Eve Dallas is now a New York City cop who lives for the job.

While recovering from her latest case, Eve is sent to investigate the brutal execution of Sharon DeGlass. A high-class escort and senator's granddaughter, Sharon has been shot three times with an illegal gun and left naked and posed on her own bed.

All the evidence points Eve towards Irish billionaire, Roarke. With an instant sexual attraction between them, Eve and Roarke must work together to find a sadistic killer - but can Eve really trust a man whose past is as damaged as her own?

BOOK REVIEW:

I stumbled across this series—seriously I had no clue it was out there—when I was checking out series' similar to Stephanie Plum on google.

The Eve Dallas series, In Death, popped up so I took a squiz at it.

Sure I am starting from book #1 and book # 46 is soon to be released.

GAHHHH!!

Like Steph Plum series by Janet Evanovich, this series first started back in mid ‘90s.

I didn’t realize when I began reading that this series starts in 2058—w
ell, okay.

When I thought I was gonna get a whole pile of futuristic gadgets and jargon—there wasn’t a great deal. I liked what I read and it really didn’t date that much to the present. In a way it kinda swallowed some of the ‘futuristic’ up by starting this series in 2017... but that is okay. Only some of it, there was still that Sci-fi side of going ‘off-planet’.

There's a nice dose of violence and gore to set the mood for the series and a smart Lieutenant.

I like Eve Dallas.

He’d seen a tall, willowy brunette with short, tumbled hair, eyes the color of honeycombs and a mouth made for sex.

I love Roarke. I want his house.

His image stared back at her from the screen. He was almost ridiculously handsome: the narrow, aesthetic face; the slash of cheekbones; and sculpted mouth. Yes, his hair was black, but the computer didn’t say it was thick and full and swept back from a strong forehead to fall inches above broad shoulders. His eyes were blue, but the word was much too simple for the intensity of color or the power in them.

Maybe J.D aka Nora Roberts didn’t see 46 books and counting in the works when she wrote this one, but I thought the insta-love on Roarke’s part was a bit fast. In hindsight that could have been spread out a bit.

“And by the way, I don’t think I’m in love with you anymore. I know I am.”

(I did hear the record player screech to a halt there. LOL)

I am reading this series from the library because it is gonna cost a lot to purchase the Kindle or paperbacks. The Kindle books are priced between $9.00US and $13.00US and sometimes more than the paperback.

That’s what libraries are for.

I have finished Glory In Death # 2 and there is a definite formula I can see this early into the series forming, just like Stephanie Plum. I am at book 13 in that series.

I would not say the two series are similar—contrary to google telling me—but I am enjoying both. Eve Dallas is certainly a lot smarter than Stephanie Plum. Bahaha.

Stephanie Plum has more the silly, outrageous repetitive shenanigans going on where Eve Dallas is more serious.

There’s a lot to be said for the wide audience gained for both series over all these years and still counting.

Get your library card ready—ya know, if you don’t have deep pockets.
